People used to move to cities to look for better jobs and bigger salaries, and they still very often do. Others are moving out of the cities in search of a more relaxed life; some of them are daily commuters and some spend their workweek in the city and flee to the country on weekends.
Your opportunities have changed; people are becoming less and less locally bound. Depending on the nature of your work, but if you are a part of this group who can, online or offline, it doesn’t matter any more, understanding marketing and creating an online presence can help you go far. Adding to it the fact I discussed about earlier, about EU seriously considering a project for covering every corner of the Union with broadband internet, it makes it a lot more real. That said, many will now be able to adjust the kind of life they want with their micro business. Do you enjoy more a slow or fast-paced life, urban or rural surroundings, small community relationship or different gatherings in the city?
There is no one better choice for everyone. Living in the countryside means healthier life, richer food, cleaner air, better weather, amazing scenery while living in the city offers cultural events, fashion, nightlife, endless stores and chioces, more things happening. What I’m saying is, if you want to move to the city, do so, if you don’t want to, you don’t necessarily need to. And this goes the other way around.
Big cities have been rapidly becoming international gatherings and they have been populated by “strangers”. Faces are changing and tradition is something that is now more spoken of then lived. If you are looking for what those cities used to be, go to the second or third largest city. They stayed longer a small community which means they kept slower pace of life, they are calmer. Though they are not as competitive as capitals, they are experiencing growth without having to go through everything capitals did to get to where they are now.
Technology advancement and cities’ overpopulation is more of a benefit for small community members. They don’t have to search for opportunities far away any more and they can influence rapid growth and development
of their town considering the way they plan it and in which direction they want to go. They could easily stop being so dependable on region’s economic help and plans. The more they produce and the more they use technology to place and sell their products and services, the more money they will bring in locally. These changes taking effect means small towns don’t have to relay on tourism or growing grapes or olives as their only option. I know there are very successful local business who do it, and they should, of course, keep it up, but others have a lot more choices now.
This will have a big effect on education, moving and commuting in the near future. It also means creating a new culture. Imagine the next 10 years and how exciting this will be. I spoke to a friend the other day about how out lives have changed during the last ten years; the first 10 years of internet and how far it has gone, about cell phones and TVs, digitalization, how much more we are connected on a global scale, how many great small businesses there are and how we changed our expectations.
If you want to be a part of this change, now is the time to do it. If you have the courage to move forward, you have the opportunity to do it.. This is the one place where you will surely always be encouraged.
