When you look at the process of opening a business for the first time, it is logical to presume that most of the work comes after you open it and very little before.
Well, if you have been following the steps on this blog (or if you look under the “6 steps to a successful micro business” category in the menu line) you’ve noticed that there is actually a lot of work and preparation that goes into it before you venture into something. From initial brainstorming, clarifying ideas, proper research and testing to creating a project for your future micro business. Everything to ensure you have a strong chances for success with your new business idea.
When you’ve done it, you probably have a feeling that you have accomplished a lot, which you most certainly have. But now you want to slow down and you are maybe under the impression that everything that follows is going to take care of itself.
Not so much.
I’ve said before that the process of opening a business is challenging, and we all know it. Whether it’s about juggling responsibilities, workload or just learning so much about something new, not every moment will be fun and easy.
It is also true that your work is not nearly done after you legally open a business. You have only just started.
Beginings take a lot more effort then maintaining or growing a business. You have to keep working to make everything that you have done until now worth it.
Draw your focus away from to-do lists and the belief you have to work hard in order to succeed. It’s time to keep your motivation alive so give most of your attention to producting your work and thinking about the new quality of life you are about to create for yourself.
Don’t, under any circumstances, overwork yourself at the begining. That will break your constant in work and you will start desperatelly wanting a break which will lead to burnout and you will have to do it. A longer break means falling out of your routine and spiralling from there.
Find a pace that won’t exhaust you, but that will allow you to move forward a little every day. It’s better to slow down the process then jeopardizing everything you have done until now.
Be proud of yourself, when you see your business moving in the direction you want, when you see your vision coming to life.
Don’t get frustrated with bureaucratic set-ups or some things taking longer then you expected. This happens every day. Always remind yourself of more important things, like your passion and your goals.
